WordOnTheStreet.dk – Then and Now
WordOnTheStreet.dk
HISTORY
2008 – PRESENT
Origin
2008 – 2012
WordOnTheStreet.dk first saw the light of day back in 2008, as more than
“just another wordpress blog”…
As well as aiming to provide indie artists with a serious, and respected outlet for their art, it was a genuine effort of a small, yet ambitious team of writers, coders and artists, who joined forces to bring a more “serious” tone of journalism to the urban culture scene.
The motivation being to provide an alternative – in-depth – look at the often pre-conceived views of urban culture, as presented by mainstream media.
Unfortunately, the site manager, and driving force behind the publication at the time, decided to discontinue the site, due to the workload involved with maintaining a volunteer, independent journalistic operation, in a Danish niche market.
Evolution
2012 – 2013
By this time, however, WOTS.dk had become a key part of Danish urban culture and its function was no longer ‘simply’ to provide an online media outlet.
As an already established media partner to a number of brands, and an integral part of both recurring events, and artist development; WordOnTheStreet.dk naturally evolved into a combined operation, dealing with event production; concept development; content creation and distribution, as well as consulting to established and independent event oganizers on a regular basis.
Revolution
2013 – present
Today – under new ownership – WordOnTheStreet.dk has become a completely independent entertainment outlet, providing quality productions; both live- and digital,
to our dedicated followers and fans.
Besides assisting our partners on external bookings and events, we also host our own recurring event series’ – such as the “#1 Danish Battle Rap League”; Rap Slam Battles, and hosting independent concerts with both underground and mainstream artists, both local and intenational.
